...this psalm recalls the fall of Jerusalem in 587 and the resulting
Babylonian exile (like most nations of the time, captives were enslaved
and used accordingly...) As John sez, is a lament for freer times and a
rant against captivity.
No personal malice intended for any of the small infants who may
be on the list... :Q this psalm is also categorized as a
"collective entreaty" resulting from a national catastrophe, an effort
to win God's sympathy by describing the psalmist's misfortune/frustration.
Cursings/blessings were common fare among the desert tribes/nations.
And as an added bonus it really confuses religious door to door
people who are going on about how very comforting the Bible is...although
grasping them firmly by the shoulders and praying loudly for their
deliverance can also have similar effects...

p.s. the reason I've been posting so much is b/c I've completely lost my
voice for three days now and may soon explode. I will return to lurk
mode when I have some other form of vocalization again!
