When I was a very shy teenager, I spent a lot of time dreaming about
going around entertaining people. I never dared mention it to anyone
because it seemed so preposterous, and since at that time my dad was in
and out of work and my parents were very anxious about financial
security, my other dream of being a poet was also not to be taken
seriously.
We-ell, things change! I found out 7 yrs. ago that I was just TAUGHT
to think of myself as shy, and as a Celtic teller and wannabe harper, I
now have the courage to say that my dream/goal is eventually to combine
my telling, harping, singing, and poetry, and...take my act on the road!
Not totally farfetched, either: so far I've gotten as far as Virginia
and Maryland and NJ telling--informally, I grant you, but it's a start.
I have been telling in the Pittsburgh area for 7 yrs., and am happy to
say that I am getting a nice pay increase for telling at this year's
Pgh. Irish Festival (6th yr. in a row). I too would be interested in
hearing anyone's else's experiences--and how does one do a cruise?
