Another reason for keeping cats indoors: they do serious damage to wildlife.
This goes beyond picking off a few sparrows - cats put a statistically
significant dent in the small animal population. If anyone's interested, I
can find the relevant Natural History article (several years back, but I can
dig through the stacks.)

We've got a house full of allergies. Damn, I miss having cats around!
