Congratulations to the winners of the harp competition at the
Scottish Games at Alexandria, VA! Carol Rose Duane of Rockville, MD,
is the winner of the professional comp and the new national champion,
and Ellen James of Leesburg, VA, is the winner of the amateur comp, and
receives the scholarship money to study Scottish harp. I will post a
complete list of winners when I receive it back.
This was an excellent competition, with harpers that were
pretty closely matched. There were some very hard decisions. Everyone
played beautifully, the music was the best ever, with some really nice
arrangements. There weren't too many strathspeys played, (and we
encourage you to learn one,) but a prize was awarded each day for the
best strathspey of the day. I don't have the final head count, but
there were about 25 harpers over the two days. The weather made history
by being so NICE. Thanks to all those who learned tunes and came out!
Good job!
