Try pennywhistle, too. Easy to play, and also very easy to afford. Not
easy to play WELL, but thats another story ^_^;;; Also hard to destroy
and easy to carry around. My D whistle's been to the top of the Beast
at Kings Island (playing all the way up, but not down..).

I'd recommend a set of D, C and B-flat to begin with. D's are probably
the easiest to play. B-flats are pretty mellow. Elderly Instruments
has the D Generation whistles for about $6. G whistles are great for
terrorizing cats and dogs, but are very cramped to play.

Next thing to try: low-D whistle. Quite a bit more expensive.
