How many tunes?
Well, I'm at about the end of the 4th lesson in the Sylvia Woods book. I
*must* memorize everything I play as sight reading is out of the
question. I can't put hands on the music and on the harp at the same
time. Not quick enough ... grin!
What musical background?
WEll, piano from about 6 till 18. Then began playing guitar mostly
self-taught, but with lessons in later years some informal and formal.
PLayed bass in a country band for several years. Band got a terminal
case of groupitus, and muh bass got stolen.
Have done studio work with synthesizers as well.
The music reading, and chords and rythms and all of that are not really a
problem When in a college class I commented on the skill of some player
or other, the professor said in a made-up German/Austrian accent,
"Practive?" He *was* correct.
I am finding that, as with the guitar I am pretty fearless about
improvising, and it is great fun. The major difficulties are keeping
track of just where I am, and where the two hands are relative to one
another. Must not necessarily touch the vibrating strings. I'd dampen
whatever last notes I got played. I figuree that if old O'Caralan could
play, so can I. More grins.
