Wind will cause any harp that is in tune to play when the wind is flowing
throught the strings. The volume is dependent on the strength of the wind,
and the angle at which the harp is held to the wind.. The key that is being
played is the one that the harp is tuned to at the time.
These strings respond sympathetically, like the lower strings on a East
Indian siitar. These are not struck, but respond automatically in sympathy
with the strings being struck. Some one built a giant wind harp on the order
of 35 feet high on a mountain top in Vermont, Maine or one of those states
that sounded all over the valley when the wind blew, and if it was kept in
tune. This article was in one of the early issues of the Folk Harp Journal.
If interested, contact me and I will see if I can find it. I have every one
of the issues back to No. 1. guazu@aol.com
