My suggestion to get a copy of the AFM contract WAS to use it as a
MODEL. NOT to get Diane to join the union.

There is practically no reason for a celtic harpist to be in the
musicians union and very little reason for a pedal harpist. (True, you
have to be a union member for orchestra gigs, and they do occasionally
refer stuff to you - but it is all dependent upon how active -- or
lazy-- your local is).

As far as work dues go, I look at it this way, if the musicians union
gets me a $250 gig, I will gladly pay them their piddly $3.75 for the
referal.
